Student Objectives for the lesson.
With having the students design a mini vacation to the country of their choice and presenting it to the class, they will gain a better understanding about other countries in the world. They will also be able to navigate around the internet to find appropriate information and information that is reliable. Schedule of Activities:
Teacher will give directions to the students:
- Teacher will put students in groups of 3-4 according to personality and academic level
- Groups will come to a consensus of which country they want to plan a mini vacation to.
- Once they groups decides, they will write the country of their choice on the board, two
groups can have the same country
- Have student find interesting and current facts a tourist traveling to that country would
need to know (such as: geography, climate, major cities, transportation, and currency)
- Find an activity the students could partake in while in their country making sure to
include price, activity description, and location of the activity
- Gather information from reliable internet sites and books
- Students will then design a PowerPoint show using the facts they gathered
- PowerPoint should include, and introduction slide, pictures, a slide for each fact, resource
slide, individual map of their country, and a world map with indication of where their
country is located
- Student will then present PowerPoint to the class, telling them why the chose their
country and the most interesting fact they found.
- Teacher will be monitoring the students well they are surfing the web making sure they
are visiting appropriate websites and reliable ones.
- The teacher will provide assistance to students that maybe struggling and make
suggestions of different websites to explore.
- Once students start making their PowerPoint teacher will help students who are
struggling with designing the slides, if a students seems to really excel in designing
PowerPoint shows let them assist the other students.
How will these activities be assessed?
Teacher will have a grading rubric for when the students are presenting their PowerPoints. Grading rubric will include: useful facts (10 points), reliable sources (10 points), appealing PowerPoint (10 points), accurate information (10 points), and presentation quality (10 points). Also the students will evaluate their groups members
Adaptations:
Special needs students will be place in groups with other average skilled students. The special needs students will interact with the other students in completing this project. The average skilled students will assist the special needs in surfing the websites and designing the PowerPoint when they are having trouble understanding the concepts. The teacher will encourage the other students to include the student to help them out.

Andrea's Lesson Plan
Target Audience:
6th grade
Big Idea:
The importance of writing papers using proper grammar.
Overall Goal:
Students should learn to edit one anothers reports using constructive criticism. The goal is to get them comfortable with editing by doing daily exercises. They should not only be comfortable with editing, but knowing what sounds better and why it sounds better. In the daily exercises, the students will be given a paragraph to edit on their tablet. They can then turn their edited paragraph in to the teacher through e-mail and the teacher will send back corrections.
Indiana Content Standards Addressed:
Standard 4: WRITING: Process: The writing process includes prewriting, drafting, editing, and revising. Students progress through these stages to write clear, coherent, and focused paragraphs and essays.
ISTE CNETS Student Standards Addressed:
Technology productivity tools: Students use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity.Students use productivity tools to collaborate in constructing technology-enhanced models, prepare publications, and produce other creative works.
Student Objectives:
The student will be given a paragraph on their template every day. The paragraph may be as large as five sentences. When they are given this paragraph they will be expected to edit it correctly.
Length of lesson:
This lesson should take about 20-30 minutes daily. We will not go over it after they do it but they will e-mail it to me for me to check it. The following day, before they do their next paragraph we will go over the first one.
Schedule of activities:
This daily assignment will start with a discussion of the assignment from the day before. The students will have already received their e-mail back from the teacher so they will know which mistakes, if any, they have made. From here the teacher will put the paragraph up on the overhead and pick a volunteer to come up and edit the paragraph. The teacher will lead a class discussion and make sure that they all agree that it is edited correctly before they do their paragraph for that day. After the class discussion the students will be free to work on their new paragraph for about 15 minutes. The teacher will not want to give any of the students answers but will be available for guidance as needed during this time. Once they are finished they will submit to the teacher in an e-mail once again and wait until the next day for the class discussion.
Assessment:
With the 15 minutes for the students to work on their paragraph they are able to ask for guidance. The assessment comes when the teacher looks over their paragraphs to see if they are editing correctly. After the teacher has graded, they have an opportunity to show the teacher that they have understood in the class discussion.
Students with special needs:
Students with special needs may need more one-on-one attention when it comes to this daily activity. This is also something that the teacher can be available for while they are editing their new paragraph. It will be obvious which students need the extra help so the teacher can make sure that they are understanding while the rest of the class is working independently.
Materials:
independent work:
1 template per student

Students will research for 30 minutes using the internet, work 25 minutes a day for one week to develop a short story, and will work 20 minutes at home for 3 days to revise each other’s stories.
Schedule Of Activities
Day 1: Students will go to the computer lab to look around on the internet. The students are free to use Google, yahoo, or any other search engine that will help them find fun and interesting ideas to incorporate into the story they will write. Students may also look at espn.com, usatoday.com, or other media sites to integrate current events into the story. They must jot down ideas and their references. At this time, the teacher will roam the room and make sure each student is on an appropriate website and is utilizing their time sufficiently.
Day 2 – 8: Students spend 25 minutes at their desks with their list of ideas they acquired while exploring on the internet. They spend this entire time developing a story from introduction to climax, to ending. The students must develop characters, settings, and interesting situations. At this time, the teacher roams the room to assure that each student is staying on target and answers any question the students may have.
Day 9: Students will go to the computer lab to post their finished short stories on their personal blogs that they already have designed. Teachers help students to do this and guide them. Day 10-13 Homework: Students use a computer at home or library to read all of their classmate’s stories on their blogs and write revisions and/or comments.
Assessment
